Africa is the second largest of the seven continents and has a surface area of 30,365,000 km² (11,724,000 square miles). The population is about 1.216 billion people as of 2016 making it the second most populous continent. With a peak of 5,895 meters (19,340 feet) above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point on the African continent, it is located in Tanzania and is the fourth biggest of the seven summits. Lake Assal is Africa’s lowest point at 155 meters (509 feet) below sea level. This makes it the third lowest point on Earth. It is located in the Danakil Desert in central Djibouti. Africa is the home to all human life. Homo Sapiens first originated more than 300,000 years ago in Africa. They then spread all over the world onto all the continents but Antartica. Some major cities are Lagos, Cairo, Kinshasa, Luanda, Nairobi, & Mogadishu.
